| Description: | HART is accepting applications for a College Internship in Marketing / Communications.
Position will assist with electronic communications maintenance and content development. Assist with writing and editing press releases and newsletters. Assist with creating content and some graphic design for marketing collateral/notices.
Reports to Public Information Officer.

Assist with maintenance of email distribution contacts using Constant Contact for external communications efforts.
Assist with writing press releases and internal and external newsletters.
Assist with proofreading various communications pieces before distribution.
Assist with designing collateral marketing pieces.
Assist with development of marketing collateral pieces and public notices.
All other related learning activities as assigned. |
| Qualifications: | High School diploma.
Currently a college Junior/Senior pursuing a Bachelors degree in communications, English, creative writing, public relations, marketing or related field.
HTML proficiency.
Adept at social media use and implementation.
Basic graphic design skills; knowledge of Quark Xpress, Photoshop and Illustrator preferred
Excellent written communication skills.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Spanish Proficiency in writing and editing a plus.
Proficient computer skills (MS Office and internet/web proficiency).
Ability to meet deadlines.
Available to work a part-time schedule primarily during traditional business hours.
Overview of HART's College Internship Program
College Internship programs offer employers the opportunity to not only do something for their communities, but also help develop a skilled workforce for the future, In addition, it is an excellent environment for college students to develop workplace readiness skills, gain work experience, and learn about career opportunities.
The Hillsborough Area Regional Transit Authority's College Internship program will allow college students to explore career opportunities at HART, establish professional relationships, receive career mentoring, and provide HART with a motivated low-cost workforce.
Goals
There are a number of goals and objectives that HART will accomplish with the College Intern Program. These goals and objectives reflect HART's desire to assist college students in achieving their educational goals, give back to the community, perform work in a real business environment that is meaningful and representative of a future career, and provide a cost effective means to create an experienced workforce for the future.
Provide college students with real-world exposure to workplace practices and professions.
Provide college students with career mentoring and professional training and an opportunity to build professional contacts and relationships.
Assist college students in choosing a career path within their specific field of study.
Increase the pool of qualified applicants who can meet current and future workforce demands.
Promote collaboration between employers, educators, and communities to support workforce development.
Create name and employer brand recognition among students, educators, communities and others.
Program Requirements
Candidates selected for this program can keep their internship for the duration of their college enrollment or for as long as the HART's workload dictates a need. Interns are not considered regular employees and therefore are not eligible for benefits or holiday pay except as required by law. Requirements to qualify for the College Internship program are as follows:
Students must be enrolled in a four year college program, or a two year college program with future plans to transfer to a four year college program, and following a course of study leading to a Bachelors, Masters, or PhD degree.
Students must have at least six months of school remaining to complete their degree requirements. (Bachelors, Masters, PhD). Students that have completed their education may continue their Internship for one year after graduation.
College Interns must submit verification of enrollment from the college registrar's office to establish a pay rate based on academic standing and determine eligibility to participate in the internship program. Verifications of enrollment are required for participants in the internship program each semester or quarter.
College Students in the Intern program can work no more that 1000 hours in any rolling 12-month period beginning with their initial date of participation in the College Internship program. (Original hire date). A weekly part-time schedule of no more than 20 hours is recommended.
College interns will not be expected to work overtime unless specifically authorized by their supervisor and there is a justifiable a business need. Authorized overtime will be paid for any hours worked in excess of eight hours in a work day.
Recruiting, Selection. Interviewing, Hiring, and Employment
Recruiting
Once a requisition has been approved, the College Internship position will be assigned a requisition number and posted in the careers section of the HART website. In addition, College Internship positions will be posted externally on intern-specific college websites. HART recruiters will attend campus recruiting events, job fairs, and other avenues of campus recruiting to market College Internship opportunities at HART.
Selection
HART recruiters will pre-screen applicants for College Internships to insure that each applicant meets the minimum requirements for the position. The recruiter assigned the specific requisition will work with the hiring manager to select the best applicants based on several factors including educational level, area of study and relevant work/volunteer experience from the applications submitted.
Interviewing
The interview process for College Interns will be the same as the interview process used for all other HART recruitments. An interview panel consisting of the hiring manager and another member of the hiring manager's work group or a representative of HR will conduct the interview using questions prepared by the assigned recruiter. The applicant that appears to be the best overall fit will be selected to move forward in the hiring process.
Hiring
The contracted HART vendor will complete a background check for the selected College Intern applicant. The background check will consist of Social Security Number verification, a criminal convictions check for all counties of residence, verification of previous employment and/or volunteer activity and verification of education and academic standing. Once a completed background check has been received, an offer of employment will be extended. The rate of pay will be determined based on the College Intern applicant's academic standing (i.e. freshman, sophomore, junior, senior, graduate, etc.) After the verbal offer has been extended and accepted the College Intern applicant will be scheduled for a pre-employment drug-screen and physical. Upon receipt of acceptable results from medical personnel, a date to begin employment will be agreed upon.
Employment
In order for a College intern to remain employed at HART and maintain their Intern status, they must remain a full-time student while employed at HART. (A College Intern that has completed their educational requirements may continue their Internship for one year after graduation.) A College Intern must remain in good academic standing with a "C" or 2.0 (on a scale of 1-4) grade point average. All College Interns must submit a verification of enrollment from the registrar's office to establish a pay rate based on their year in school and as proof of full-time enrollment in college. Verification will be checked by the College intern Program Manager and must be provided each semester.
Intern Pay Scale
The rate of pay for an HART College Intern will be determined by their academic standing, based on the number of credit hours earned, as determined by the educational verification provided at the beginning of each academic term.
